THE SISTERS
Christ the King School was about a mile walk for home with no buses at that time. Packing lunches for seven every morning was not an easy task. A little soft selling by Charlie and Father Mooney arranged with the Sisters to invite the Finnigans to join them for lunch in their private dining room. If anyone would rather join their friends in the cafiteria, no problem just pack your own lunch. The Sisters arranged other ways to bring healing. Each day one of the Finnnigan boys ran down the hall ringing the dismissal bell and as the children marched single file down the hall Kathleen cranked the victrola playing John Phillip Souza records. Father Mooney sat in his stateroom overlooking the playground where he could watch the children play and take corrective action when necessary. All the Finnigan boys would serve as alter boys at Sunday mass. Father gave Paul a weekend job polishing the alter and church floors as a last attempt to bring one of the Finnigan boys to the priesthood. Father was not successful.
